3M Health Information Systems launched a new technology platform this week aimed at allowing healthcare providers and payers to prioritize care for high-risk populations. The company says the platform, Social Determinants of Health Analytics, combines clinical, social and population health data to create a complete picture of patient health. "SDoH analytics are essential to improving outcomes and achieving health equity across communities," said Elizabeth Guyton, vice president of 3M Health Information Systems, in a statement. The new platform uses 3M's population classification system and includes social risk intelligence to promote program design and management in collaboration with community-based organizations.ģM's population classification system, known as Clinical Risk Groups, helps to identify medically complex individuals. The platform builds on this information to describe the total disease burden in a population. This could in turn allow healthcare providers and organizations to tailor services to best suit the needs of specific groups. "Identifying social risk improves our ability to address our members' clinical risk and their care management needs," said Dr. Miguel Venereo, chief medical officer for Florida-based Community Care Plan, which piloted 3M SDoH Analytics. "We are now establishing programs to address health literacy, not only for our members, but in the community at large," continued Venereo. A medical scribe accompanies a doctor or other health practitioner to patient visits and documents those visits in real time so the physician can focus on their conversation with, and examination of, the patient. Can't even have a conversation with anyone who's at home with you. You sit at your computer for hours with your headphones on and you can't do anything but focus on that. I was too tired to do anything but go to sleep after my shifts were done. I worked approximately 25 hours a week and it felt like 50 hours. Truthfully, they should be paying their scribes at least $20 an hour for the work they do. I could have gotten a retail job for what I was paid at iScribes. For some scribes the team lead turnover is worse. I think in the nearly 2 years that I was there that I had 5 or 6 team leads and that was not as bad as it can be. The company does try to make everyone feel like they're part of a team and they do offer lots of opportunities to advance to other roles, but I didn't have any desire to do that.
